Oswald Smith

Do you have a favorite spot?
I’ve traveled quite a lot around the world and I’ve kited many  places. But there will never be another place like South Africa. It’s got the wind, the waves, the vibe and the people. Couldn’t bar more stoked to call it home.

Which is your favorite board?
My favourite board will have to be the Airush 140 Livewire Team. The carbon makes it a lot more stiff, which gives it more pop on the take offs and inevitably lets you fly higher. I mean, the board that will take you the highest will always be my number one.

What is your passion?
I am inspired by anybody  that follows their passion, that believes in their goals and are 100% comfortable with who they are. I think a lot of us are scared of failure and what people think, so as soon as your you life is going to be so much better.

If you had to pick two surfers, dead or alive, to surf with. Who would they be and where would you go?
Thats an odd question haha. But I would definitely dig to rock it out with Jimmy Hendrix ! I wouldn’t say he’s a sport fanatic. But I love music and the fact that it can connect people on a universal scale. It would be so sweet to jam some guitar with him on stage and then I’ll watch him struggle in the foamies haha.
Travis Pastrana is also somebody that really inspires me in my line of sport. He’s got that in it to win it approach no matter the repercussions, which I believe is one of the most important attributes in any extreme sport.

Which is the best city on earth and why?
I’m not really a city person, so If  I could live somewhere it would probably be indo, you got the waves, the sun, the palm tree, the vibes and yes there’s wind. Wouldn’t mind a little beach shack in West nusa Tengara to wake up from, surf every morning and kite in the afternoon. Life would be made!

Do you follow a special way of life? If yes, what is it?
Yes, I have my daily routine. It’s something that gives me discipline and helps keep a level head. I tend to wake up in the morning go for a hike in the mountain with my dad and the dog and then exercise followed by a kite session. For me it’s super important to have a routine, because it helps give you direction. But I do enjoy my odd days partying and mixing it up to maintain that balance.

What are your next goals? What do you want to achieve next?
Apart from doing well in competitions I would like to start innovating new tricks in kiteboarding. I already brought in 1 new trick, the “Oh really 5”. And now I want to land the “tootsie 7”. These trick names must sound like gibberish to you haha, but all I can say is once I stomp those babies and start pushing that technical side of kiteboarding I’m gonna be stoked.

Is there something more you want to tell us?
If I could give anybody any advice, I would say listen to the voice inside of you. Go find your outlet and let it guide you. Life to short not to enjoy your passions, so go find them and everything will be better. STOKE !

One quote about SWOX. What do you think about SWOX? How did you get to know the company?
Finally I’m not a roasted tomato anymore, but a smooth avocado.
I got in touch with the company through the South African distributor. He said’ “Just try it”. So I did and immediately felty that it works. It’s a privilege to be part of such an innovative company, with a product that is hands down the best on the market. I support their goals and aspirations and can’t wait to see what magic we can create together.
