Bruna Kajiya

According to your years of experience in kiteboarding, we are excited to know, which kite-surf spot you prefer the most?
I enjoy Cumbuco in Brazil, a great spot in my home country.

Tell us, about your favourite board and the advantages to others?
Most of the time I´ll take the Airush 1.34 Diamond board. It’s specifically designed for women’s needs, taking into consideration our weight, height and lower center of gravity. It just rides so smooth and has the greatest pop.

As an athlete do you follow a special way of life?
Yes, my way of life is to be healthy and treat my body and mind the best way possible. To keep everything in balance I put high value on a healthy diet, I constantly exercise and train, I do meditation practice but, the most important thing is: as soon as I feel like needing a break of everything, I allow myself to do whatever feels good at this very moment. If that means eating junk food, partying the night away, skipping training… I just respect my needs and go with it. Obviously this is the exception from my normal routine and it’s my personal key for a balanced life.

What inspires you?
Anyone equipped with willpower, strong determination and the willingness of doing what they love, inspires me. I find that passionate people usually turn their activities into something special and worthwhile to observe. It’s a great inspiration for me to put the same effort and passion into my life and into my sport.

If you could pick two people (dead or alive who have especially inspired you for your sports) to go for a surf with, who would they be?
Kelly Slater – being a kiteboarder and a surfer like me. I feel a strong connection to surfing, and Kelly seems to be a freak of nature, I would like to go surfing with him and figure out how he keeps in shape and on a competitive level over such a long period of time.
And Serena Williams – such a powerful female roll model. For me she is not only one of the best female athletes of all time, she is THE best athletes of all time. It would be great to have her tireless motivation and strength of will, to know what drives her, and how to reach that level of excellence as an athlete.

Where would you like to live in the near future or what do you think is the best place to live on earth?
That’s a hard one! The more I travel the world, the hardest it is to find just one place. I fell in love with many different places and each has it’s ideal time of the year. For example, from January to March, Cape Town in South Africa is perfect, then from April to July, Tarifa in Spain is amazing. But I’m still on the search for that one place where I would like to spend all year around.

What are your goals?
Obviously competing plays a big part on my goals, I’m a competitive rider and I would like to get my third World Title. But my biggest goal behind all of that is to push the sport, to break boundaries and be an ambassador for my sport. I was the first woman who landed a Backside 315 and I would like to keep pushing my riding and land more new tricks to stretch the limits of women’s kiteboarding.

Is there something else you want to add?
In whatever you do, be mindful, do your best at the specific given time. And always be grateful.

One quote about SWOX. What do you think about SWOX? How did you get to know the company?
SWOX, the product, the brand, is something I really believe in and I’m honoured to be part of it. I first got some sample products from Maximilian, founder of SWOX, and the products won me over. Then I got to see more of the brand, meanwhile developed a great communication with Max and here we are today, I couldn’t be happier to be part of the team.
