What motivates you most in surfing and in life?
I'm definitely very competitive and thrive off a good challenge. I love pushing myself to be better every day, whether it's in the water or in life. Training every single day to improve my skills as a surfer and as a person is something I truly enjoy, it keeps me driven. I also love the opportunities surfing gives me to meet new people and explore different places. It’s an awesome way to grow, both as a surfer and as an individual, and I’m all about embracing that journey.
What’s your go-to training routine?
I usually surf once or twice a day, focusing on my technique and competition training. It’s all about fine-tuning my skills in the water. Outside of surfing, I make sure to hit the gym, usually in the evening after my surf sessions. Strengthening my body helps keep me sharp and injury free. After the gym, I like to stretch out and relax, it's the perfect way to wind down and get ready for another day of training. It’s all about balancing the physical with the mental.
What’s your favorite surf spot — and why?
My favorite spot in the world has to be Barra de la Cruz in Mexico. It's a perfect right-hand break over sand, and the waves are so much fun! Plus, the water is always super warm, which makes it even better. But I also love surfing in different places, and there's something special about riding waves back home with all my friends. It’s those sessions that really make the experience unforgettable.
Do you have a personal mindset or philosophy that keeps you going?
I’ve always been motivated from a really young age to achieve, and I don’t think that drive will ever leave me. Growing up in an area where the waves aren’t as consistent as other places in the world has only fueled my determination even more. It’s made me tougher and more persistent, especially when it comes to competing against the world’s best. I truly believe overcoming those challenges has given me an edge in my pursuit of success.
What are your top goals for 2025?
I’m determined to make the Challenger Series for 2025-2026, and I’m excited to showcase my surfing to the world. I truly believe I have the ability to achieve this goal over time. I’m also fully committed to qualifying for the 2028 Olympics and making it to the Championship Tour.
Any pre-competition habits that help you perform better?
I’m always training and working toward my goals, which really boosts my confidence when heading into events. I also make it a point to familiarize myself with the break and get comfortable with it before the competition starts. It helps me feel more prepared and focused when it’s time to perform.
If you could surf with any two athletes (past or present), who would they be — and why?
I would love to surf with Andy Irons and Felipe Toledo. Both of them have pushed the boundaries of the sport and made history in their own ways. Andy’s raw power and style, combined with Felipe’s incredible aerials and precision, are truly inspiring. Their surfing is absolutely incredible, and it would be amazing to share the water with them and learn from their unique approaches.
How does SWOX support your lifestyle, and what do you like most about it?
SWOX is an amazing brand that supports my lifestyle in so many ways. Not only is their sunscreen phenomenal, but it’s the only one I’ve ever used that doesn’t irritate my skin, run into my eyes, or feel greasy on my face. I discovered SWOX a while ago and was absolutely over the moon when Max and the team approached me. It truly means a lot to have such an incredible brand backing me on my journey and believing in my abilities. Plus, my whole family loves it too! Their support makes a huge difference, and I’m grateful to be a part of the SWOX family!
